What’s on Your…

I saw this on Ali's blog and thoughts it was a perfect snapshot of life right now.

VANITY | I don’t have one. Thinking I may need one. Currently, the bench top in the bathroom is covered with a collection of hair and beauty products and  yesterdays jewellery.

PERENNIAL TO DO LIST | getting the washing up to date. Meal planning for the week and food shopping. Cleaning the bathroom. Correcting the kids persuasive writing. Filling in my work program for last week. Gathering and sorting my paperwork and thoughts to start the report writing process.

REFRIGERATOR SHELVES | zucchinis, beans, feta cheese, lemon cordial, bacon, leftover pizza, breakfast juice.

ITINERARY | Hawthorn vs North Melbourne with Tayla next weekend. Birthday celebrations. Seeing Matt Corby at the end of May. Hoping to make plans for June long weekend.

FANTASY ITINERARY | Splendour in the grass in Byron. South America, Italy, France, Spain, South East Asia next year.

PLAYLIST | Noah and the Whale. Vydamo. The xx. Passion Pit. Ball Park Music. Matt Corby. The Black Keys.

NIGHTSTAND |I don’t currently have one. I have a lamp sitting on a pile of ‘to read’ books that are on the edge of our pallet bed. I really miss having a nightstand and a place to put my bits and pieces.

WORKOUT PLAN | 6am Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Rain, hail or shine. Hoping to fit in a weekend run too.

IPHONE | Instagram, messages from Brendan + mum, facebook, rain radar, alarm clock.

MIND: Getting on top of things at work and hoping to find that elusive work/life balance. Preparing my body and mind to run the 10k at Run Melbourne. Money and budgets and saving. Eating locally.

WALLS OF YOUR FAVORITE ROOM IN YOUR HOUSE: Being a rental house, they are all the same colour. Thankfully, this is a lovely cream shade. The pictures on the walls of the lounge room are pretty rad. Would love to have more art hanging on the walls.

life right now

It feels like I clicked my fingers, woke up and it was April. I have no idea how that happened.

Term one rushed past in a blur of getting to know the students and new staff, a two week school swimming program, beginning of year testing, a whole school cultural fiesta and the opening of our new building and a learning expo. And all of this is a super short 9 week term (including the midweek start and early Easter end!) Crazy.

A few weekends ago, we participated in Relay For Life for the third year. It is an incredible event. I have hundreds of photos +  hours of video from the event which I am working on putting into some sort of video.

I've been embracing cooking at home. I joined in with Ruth's bread revolution and made bread. It was rad and tasted amazing. This is a good thing for my budget and health.

I've been slowly working away on my hexagon blanket and I taught myself to ripple. Then I decided I really didn't like what I had done so far, pulled it all out and started again. I am now waiting or my new wool order to arrive so I can continue to work on it.

I signed up for Tim Coulson's workshop, The Nursery later in the year. Pretty much every blogger I admire went along at some time last year and had a fantastic time. I can't wait.

I've been thinking about how I can commit to blogging. The current trend I am noticing goes something like this. Blog during school holidays. Completely forgot about blogging when school goes back. School holidays. Apolgoise for the lack of blogging. Blog during holidays. Repeat. Thinking I might need to spend some time planning for the blog. Because, really, I think it is an ace thing to be doing.

What have you been making or baking lately?
How have you made blogging apart of your routine?

goodbye summer holidays

And just like that, school went back.

I have no idea where the time yet. I have a heap of photos on my phone and camera.  Drafted, unedited posts, just sitting there. Waiting. Maybe they will see the light of day, maybe they won't.

I know that good stuff happened over the holidays. Lots of it. There were day trips and overnight trips. Lots of eating, drinking and baking. Crafting. Reading. Long lunches with friends. Adventures. Running. Relaxing. Starting new projects. Finishing old ones.

With a new year, brings lots of thinking and reflecting, which leads to goals for the coming year...

This year, will be the year I try to work out a way to maintain this blog while negativing my way through the land of school.

This year, will be the year that I save the hardest I ever have so that we can travel in 2014.

This year, will be the year I embrace an evening routine.

This year, will be the year I run painfree.

Has work gone back for you?

What goals do you have for 2013?

Hello Project Life 2013

I seriously don't care that currently my 2012 project life album is sitting on my table, three quarters done. Slowly, I will finish it. The fact that I have recorded stuff is rad. It tells my story for 2012 and that is awesome. I love love love the stories & snippets & memories of life that I have recorded.

Naturally, I thought it would be complele reasonable to start my 2013 album before I had completed 2012. This year, I plan to not get caught up in the project life over load, that happens over here! Instead, I plan to keep it super super simple as that is what works for me. A tag here, a little bit of washi or a flair over there. I don't do layers and fancy scrapbook pages in each pockets. I love that over the past year or so I have really begun to find my style & my approach to this project.

Here is my title page for 2013. Currently, it is at the end of my 2012 album while I wait for the new albums to be in stock. I have used the Seafoam Project Life Kit, which I plant to use a whole lot throughout this album, a free printable from Cathy Zielske's and the quote card is from here.

I love how it all came together.

For those of you who are new to the concept, Project Life is a memory keeping system that is completely awesome. The creator of Project Life, Becky Higgins explains it much better than I could in a cute little video here.

Like last year, I plan to use Project Life as way to document my weeks. The big things, sad things, happy things and everything in between. The photos, stories and stuff that makes up our life. The best thing about starting at the beginning of the new year, is that my album always starts off with summer holidays! I am currently taking part in Ali Edward's one little word workshop and have worked my way through Elise Joy's i choose class. Bits and pieces from both of those will be included in my album throughout the year.

A couple of days after New Years, Brendan and I headed down to Phillip Island with a group of friends for Kustom Nats, big classic car show that is hold at Phillip Island Race Track. It was such a lovely weekend with old friends, new friends and beautiful weather. I had lots of extra photos so I decided to add an insert with some photos just from the track that weekend.

There you go. Project Life Week 1 is done and in the books. That, I love that.

I really don't think I will be posting my layouts everyweek, mainly because it's unlikey they will be finished on time and I really don't think I want to put that stress on myself. Remember, the whole concept of Project Life is to make it work for you. I will probably try for monthly updates.

Any questions, ask away. I will do my best to try and answer them.

my creative space | hexagon blanket

There is something magically about the summer holidays. Morning sunshine, lazy afternoons, the feeling that you have all the time in the world. Enter the hexagon blanket. I have been loving the look of crochet hexagons for quite some time, yet they always appeared in the two hard bag. Until, the summer holidays came along and I stumbled upon the easiest tutorial I had seen for them yet. One thing led to another, and before I knew it I hard started to make my own hexagon blanket!

I've been using a similar kind of join as you go technique that I used here. It's not perfect. I'm not really convienced that I like how they join together. But at the moment, I don't want to learn a new joining stitch, as I would never finish the blanket if I didn't join them as I went along.

I am embracing the perfectly imperfect hexagon blanket. I am loving the look the solid colours give when joined together. I love that I have a new go to whenever project.

What are your currently working on?
Do you prefer long term or short term projects?

right now.

Hello 2013.

I have no idea how to start this post. So much has happened over the last month. We've celebrated Christmas and New Years and had a lovely extra long weekend getaway with some awesome friends. I have projects, ideas and to do lists running through my heads. People to catch up with, things to do and planning for starting the new school year.

And yet, I have no idea where to start, which stories to tell and which photos to share.

Just begin. And that is what I will do.

Tomorrow I will post my first my creative space post for the year. I hope to make it a regular feature on the blog this year. I also plan to share my approach to project life this year, parts of my one little word journey and snippets from my life.

2013 is looking to be a year of consolidating things and making plans. Life changing plans. I can't wait to share this journey with you.

How is 2013 looking for you?

recently {five reasons why the blog has been so quite}

1. We moved house
Early August Brendan and I decided it was time to start looking for our own place to live. We has no idea what we were getting ourselves in for. In a space of a month we looked, applied, got accepted and moved in. I honestly think it has taken me till now to get my head around the whole process because it happened so quickly + at the most busiest time of the year. But it feels good. We have learnt so much about each other and ourselves during the past few months, and slowly we are working out how to merge our two lives together to make new routines and traditions.

2. Work has been insanely busy
Schools are busy places, especially at the end of the school year. I've written and edited reports. Had spontaneous parent/teacher interviews. Said goodbye to this years kids and met next years. Taken 80 9/10 year olds to the beach in the rain and slept over at school. Said goodbye to a colleague I started my teaching career with and met new colleagues. Turned stars into Christmas trees and newspaper into Christmas bowls. Made chocolate balls with 80 children. Packed up my classroom and spent hours engaging exhausted children. Basically, I have been in survival mode for the last two months until now.

3. Turned Twenty-Five
Celebrated my birthday with some of my closet friends at a lovely little beer garden in the city. Melbourne gave as a glimpse of it's perfect summer nights as we drank beer and chatted in the warm night air. It was ace.

4. Celebrated Christmas
We ate, drank, ate, laughed, ate, swapped presents and repeated, multiple times with friends and family over a three day period. It was lovely to relax catch up and be present. It was awesome to have my own house and tree to  decorate.

5. Hello Summer Holidays
That pretty much sums it up. I have so many plans for the next five weeks, that I really don't know where to start. I'm looking forward to spending some time down at the beach with some ace new friends, catching up (again) on my 2012 project life album and coming up with an achievable plan  for 2013, making plans to crochet a new blanket and make a quilt, plan and dream about a 2014 holiday and cook up a storm.

I have plans to share for the blog, 2013 and a heap to catch up on throughout the next few days.

It feels good to have time slow down for a moment and really enjoy the last week of 2012.

Have things slowed down where you are?
What plans do you have for the last week of 2012?
